Fort Worth Four Vehicle Crash Caused By Fed Ex Truck

Four vehicles were involved in a serious collision when a Federal Express truck crossed the center median and drove into oncoming traffic. According to a report by the local NBC affiliate the Fed Ex truck was driving northbound on Interstate 820 near Rosedale Avenue when it crossed over the center median and entered the southbound lanes of traffic.

Once the truck was in the southbound lanes, it flipped onto its side in the lanes of traffic. Several cars were unable to avoid the toppled truck and crashed into the side of it. One motorist was ejected from his vehicle. Another had to be removed with the “Jaws of Life” by emergency crews. Those two people were rushed to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital; one with serious injuries.

Police are not sure what caused the Fed Ex truck to drive so erratically. While they do not believe that drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident, that possibility is still under investigation.

Truck Driver’s Negligence
Like all drivers on the road, truck drivers have a duty to those around them to operate their vehicles in a safe, controlled manner. While there are occasionally reasons for an accident, e.g. an animal darting across the roadway, most are the result of the negligence of the truck driver. Truck driver negligence can be proven through a number of ways, some common forms of negligence are:

  • Driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol;
  • Driving while tired and in violation of semi-truck driver resting requirements;
  • Carrying a hazardous load that has not been properly registered;
  • Carrying a load in excess of the truck’s capacity;
  • Failing to adequately maintain the tires, brakes, and other vital components of the truck; and
  • Driving with a suspended commercial driver’s license (CDL) or no CDL at all.

If a truck driver is negligent and causes a wreck, that truck driver — as well as the company that employs him — may be liable to the accident victims or their families for their damages.
