18 Wheeler Truck Crashes into McDonald’s, Injuring Seven

Earlier last month, a semi-truck lost control and crashed through the wall of a McDonald’s fast food restaurant in Amarillo. According to a report by News Channel 10, the semi-truck accident occurred at the intersection of Amarillo Boulevard and Pierce Street on a Tuesday evening.

Miraculously, no one was fatally injured in the semi-truck accident. However, seven people were taken to the hospital with varying degrees of injuries. All taken to the hospital are expected to recover.

Crews spent hours attempting to extricate the truck from the fast-food restaurant. Ultimately, the truck was taken out the same way it went in; through the wall of the restaurant. McDonald’s must now decide if the building can be salvaged, or if it will need to be rebuilt.

The exact cause of the accident is unknown, and it is currently under investigation. Police are not currently suspecting that drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident.

Fort Worth Trucking Accidents on the Rise Again
Luckily, this Amarillo semi-truck accident didn’t result any lose of life, even though seven people had to be hospitalized due to the injuries they sustained. However, not every Fort Worth semi-truck accident ends in such a result. In many cases, victims of an 18 wheeler accident are not so lucky.

In fact, in 2009 there were almost 340 fatal semi-truck accidents in Texas alone. This figure represents almost 10% of all fatal semi-truck accidents nationwide. This data is consistent with other studies that show Texas as the state with the most fatal accidents involving large trucks. Between the period of 1996 and 2000, there were approximately 1639 fatal semi-truck accidents in the State of Texas. This number represents almost 9% of all the fatal truck accidents across the country.

Recovering in a Fatal Semi-Truck Accident
The State of Texas allows for the families of those killed in a Texas truck accident to recover for their loss through a legal mechanism known as “wrongful death.” A wrongful death claim is essentially a negligence claim brought by a surviving family member. At its core, a wrongful death claim asserts that another driver’s negligent or reckless behavior is responsible for the death of their loved one.

In order to bring a wrongful death claim in Texas a person must have a certain familial relationship with the deceased victim. To find out more about the wrongful death laws in Texas, contact an experienced Texas semi-truck accident attorney.
